چکیده

investigations around some oil and gas refineries showed that phenanthrene is the predominant form of pahs in these areas. so, in this study, the role of sorghum vulgare pers. sudanense (a warm season grass type) in removal of phenanthrene from soils (phytoremediation) in a 16 week period greenhouse study is investigated. the stress of phenanthrene presence on plant's physiological activity, such as chlorophyll content and biomass was studied. to assess ecological risk of the method, pollutant accumulation in plant tissue was determined. all determinations were performed by hplc and statistical analysis, t-test and tukey, was done by spss program. results showed that in planted treatments there was a 20% increase in pollutant removal comparing with unplanted treatments. furthermore, it was shown that the most of the phenanthrene was degraded in the rhizosphere region and it didn't migrate toward upper parts of plant. also, it was shown that phenanthrene didn't affect plants physiological activities.all results was verified statistically in 95% significance level (p

Effect of bioaugmentation to enhance phytoremediation for removal of phenanthrene and pyrene from soil with Sorghum and Onobrychis sativa

The use of plants to remove Poly-aromatic-hydrocarbons (PAHs) from soil (phytoremediation) is emerging as a cost-effective method. Phytoremediation of contaminated soils can be promoted by the use of adding microorganisms with the potential of pollution biodegradation (bioaugmentation). In the present work, the effect of bacterial consortium was studied on the capability of Sorghum and Onobrych...

Phytoremediation capability of nickel and manganese polluted soil by Sorghum biocilor L.

A pot experiment was conducted based on a factorial study and complete random block design with three replicates to investigate the phytoremediation potential of Sorghum biocilor L. in soils polluted with nickel and manganese during 2017-2018. The first factor was nickel nitrate (0, 60, and 120 mg kg-1 soil) and the second factor comprised of manganese sulphate (0, 50, and 100 µM). The characte...

Phytoremediation of soil metals.

The phytoremediation of metal-contaminated soils offers a low-cost method for soil remediation and some extracted metals may be recycled for value. Both the phytoextraction of metals and the phytovolatilization of Se or Hg by plants offer great promise for commercial development. Natural metal hyperaccumulator phenotype is much more important than high-yield ability when using plants to remove ...

Arbuscular mycorrhizal phytoremediation of soils contaminated with phenanthrene and pyrene.

An available remediation technique--arbuscular mycorrhizal phytoremediation (AMPR)--is further proposed for soils contaminated with phenanthrene and pyrene as representative polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) utilizing a greenhouse pot experiment. The initial concentrations of phenanthrene and/or pyrene in soils were 103 mg kg(-1) and 74 mg kg(-1), respectively. The host plant was alfalfa ...

Phytoremediation of toxic metals from soil and waste water.

Phytoremediation is an emerging technology, which uses plants and their associated rhizospheric microorganisms to remove pollutants from contaminated sites. This plant based technology has gained acceptance in the past ten years as a cheap, efficient and environment friendly technology especially for removing toxic metals. Plant based technologies for metal decontamination are extraction, volat...

EDTA-enhanced phytoremediation of lead contaminated soil by Bidens maximowicziana.

Phytoremediation is a potential cleanup technology for the removal of heavy metals from contaminated soils. Bidens maximowicziana is a new Pb hyperaccumulator, which not only has remarkable tolerance to Pb but also extraordinary accumulation capacity for Pb. The maximum Pb concentration was 1509.3 mg/kg in roots and 2164.7 mg/kg in overground tissues. The Pb distribution order in the B. maximow...
